Esme Emerson - Artist Analysis

A sibling-duo who grew up in Suffolk, Esme Emerson are an up and coming musical talent who you may not have heard of. Their discography currently contains a seven song album and 4 song EP. Although the small quantity of music their quality is shown off beautifully through Esme's stunning vocals or Emerson's pitch-perfect instrumentals. Their emotional range can reach highs of Show You (Truck Song) and lows of Songs about you. As an extremely big fan of Esme Emerson I am perfectly suited to walk you through why they are a major one to watch when it comes to new artists climbing the charts.

Debut - S for sugar D for dog

There is only one way I can describe this album and that's simply perfection. I was sat in my bedroom when I first listened to Esme Emerson, I started with their first album S for sugar D for dog and it is one of the best demonstration of a singers vocals I have ever heard. Running (Back To You) is quite literally my favourite song of all time. It's pumped with emotion and the whole album is extremely versatile. I would say its calming although I get a huge rush of serotonin every time I take a listen. Even writing this I'm struggling on what I can say about this album without sounding like a broken record. Although Esme is the lead singer and Emerson just fills in the background he does take the spotlight at the end of Look Down / Scared Of Falling which personally only made me hungry for more Emerson vocals. I would love to see a whole song where he takes charge and shows what, I'm sure, he can do. This album is very simple but it doesn't need to be anymore then it is. The instrumentals it gives us compliments Esme's voice perfectly.

The Face Of Esme Emerson

Although you may not have heard of them, you're favourite artists may have. They have opened for multiple big artists in the past and have started to up their live show game. For example they opened for The Japanese House back in May. Featuring at venues such as The Roundhouse and the O2 Institute. I saw them at the roundhouse when they played some unreleased songs. I was hoping for some songs from their album but they still sounded beautiful and it was nice to hear teasers of songs to come. They documented their time with The Japanese House on Instagram. Once the tour came to a close they sent out thanks to Amber herself and the whole crew, including fellow opener Bonnie Kemplay who they described as "the loveliest ever (but still really cool and mysterious) hanging out with you everyday was such a treat."

The Japanese House aren't the only ones who have had the pleasure of having Esme Emerson open for them. Alt-Rock band Keane also invited the duo to play at a show for them, in an interview Emerson said "We got a text and tried to not freak out because Keane are a huge band." he followed this up with "We haven't played a venue of this size with a full band before, so that is really going to be amazing. But it's important we don't overthink it, ultimately we want to go on and enjoy it rather then try craft this perfect thing." This was also paired with a spot and BBC introducing latitude festival which was really important for the two. I am also going to their headlining concert on October ninth and simply can't wait, if you're reading pretty please play Running (Back To You).

EP - Big Leap, No Faith, Small Chancer

4 songs lasting 13 minutes this EP really was a big leap for this duo. It was extremely experimental and a contrast from the soft tones of their debut album. From the highly electronic hit of Afraid Of Losing to the upbeat guitar strums of Show You (Truck Song). This EP was slowly released song by song starting with Please followed by Show You (Truck Song) next was Afraid Of Losing and the EP was fully released on the 28th of June with the hit Fade Out. Of all these songs I couldn't decide a winner as I love them all, however it is extremely important to highlight how impressive this step is for the two, this piece of exploration could really define what their music will be for the future.

What's next for Esme Emerson?

As a big fan there's a lot of things I would love to see from this talented duo but what do I really see? I think new music / new album could be in the works now that they've found their vibe, although I don't think this would be released and ready for a while due to how recent their EP release was. With how much they've been touring with different artists and how many shows they've been selling tickets for I could also see more headlining shows and I would kill for a tour that they headline in full. I think that Esme Emerson have been incredible in getting their name out there. They also recently announced they were going on tour as openers with the indie band Good Neighbours later in October. This could very well be my fan boy brain speaking from a place of hopeful delusion but doing all these live shows really does feel like they are getting used to what performing in front of a live audience is like in preparation for a headlining tour. Now all of this said I don't "expect" anything from Esme Emerson, I am grateful for even the chance to see them live but October. But still it doesn't hurt to wonder whether there could be something on the cards for this band who burst onto the scene with brilliance.

I am so impressed by the music that they are producing, it's like they're top notch professionals who have been at it for 10 plus years.
