For Your Validation EP - April's Album Of The Month

For this month's album, I've chosen an artist who has been on tour this month and I can truly say is the next big thing, this is For Your Validation, the EP by Alessi Rose.

1. Oh My

Love, overthinking, and insecurity. The start of every relationship isn't always honeymoon love, and this song explores the feeling of being uncomfortable in a new relationship. Alessi says that she just wants to be that person's person, be the one they look for first in a crowded room, and who they're the most afraid to lose. Oh My is a great way to start this EP. Oh My 7.5/10.

2. Start All Over

Start All Over is a song all about the desperation of finding your soulmate. Alessi talks about how she doesn't want to go through finding a new person and building a relationship, she just wants the one she currently has to work. The feeling of just one more chance is very clear in this song, just one more chance, and I'll be different, I'll be the one to change and morph for you. Start All Over 7.5/10.

3. IKYK

Falling in love with someone who doesn't love you back. The worst feeling one can feel? In the chorus of this song, the message is clear: you know I love you, you know everyone loves you, you know I'm lying when I say I don't love you. There's an argument to be made that this hurt is solely self-inflicted, even Alessi mentions it in her first verse, but I'd like to point out the subject's role in this. Never addressing the fact that Alessi doesn't have a chance, are they leading her on? IKYK 6/10.

4. imsochillandcool

Same theme as IKYK, falling in love with someone who doesn't love you back, although this time I think it's less clear to the subject that Alessi is in love with him. In this song, however, there is more of a focus on Alessi herself and her crush's current partner. She makes her extreme, bitter jealousy very clear and isn't afraid to speak her mind. She does all this and claims that she's still so cool and chill about everything, as long as you ignore the lyrics of the song. imsochillandcool 8.5/10.

5. Pretty World

One of the most sentimental songs on the album, Pretty World is all about Alessi's self-criticism and how her partner lifts her higher than anyone or anything else. The vocals on this track are a definite highlight for me. Despite the lovely outer shell, the outro to this song could have somewhat of a sinister meaning. She goes on about how she loves the world she's in and how she wouldn't be able to handle it being taken away from her. I understand the feeling of how certain people can uplift you; however, being completely reliant on the world you've built isn't inherently wrong, but can be risky. Pretty World 7/10.

6. Don't Ask Questions

What would an EP be without one song about cheating? Don't Ask Questions is a song about not asking questions that you don't want answered, it's kind of in the name. With an out of sight, out of mind mentality, Alessi is putting herself at risk of being completely lied to by her partner and is at risk of being cheated on every time he goes out. Don't Ask Questions 7/10.
