Esme Emerson, first ever headline - 09/10/24

I've written about them before and I'll write about them again, Esme Emerson hosted their first ever headline show this Wednesday and I was lucky enough to attend! Just like we did with the previous concert review, I'm going to split this review into three sections, crowd work, opener and the headline. You guys know I'm the biggest Esme Emerson fan but somehow I've fallen in love even more, here's how it went.

Crowd Work

After queueing for about 15 minutes I managed to get a spot right at the front, and due to the intimacy of the venue I was able to have a little chat with both the opener, the wonderful Jo Geller, and headliners, Esme Emerson. I'll talk more about their actual performances later on but I do want to mention how friendly and easy to talk to both artists were. Jo Geller finished a beautiful 30 minute set and was extremely confident in the way she talked to the crowd. I was also able to have a little convo with her after and told her great she was, very sweet and talented Jo Geller was brilliant! Now Esme Emerson, what do I even say? I will forever be grateful for how nice they were, not only taking the time to take pictures with me and the rest of the crowd but also giving out setlists and just making everyone feel so amazing. When I talked to them it wasn't like I was impeding on their time it felt like they actually wanted to have a conversation with every single person. Making sure everyone felt comfortable while taking photos it was truly commendable and deserves more of a shoutout then my platform can give them. If you guys are reading please know how much I appreciate you guys for being you. I am completely lost for words!

Opener

I've already mentioned how spectacular Jo Geller was but let's talk about it more. She was extremely confident for an artist that hasn't even released a piece of work yet! Her vocals were beautiful and every song was amazing, I can't wait to see what she does in the future. Big shoutout to her bassist and friends in thew crowd whose energy were amazing and really rubbed off on me! To all you readers I'd keep an eye on Jo Geller as I truly think it's a name you will hear again.

The Headliner

The first time felt so nice they have to do it twice! Esme Emerson have already announced another headline set for April 2025 which I have already gotten tickets to, it was really cool to hear some never before heard music from the duo, it really felt like a privilege. They started off their set with one of their most popular hits Fade Out which really set the tone for the rest of the concert. Enjoying the songs that we knew and getting excited for the ones that are to come Esme Emerson's vibe was unmatched! They enjoyed performing as much as we did watching it. It would've been nice to hear some songs off their first record S For Sugar D For Dog but I also understand that they may be wanting to move into a new era music. The unreleased songs were absolutely brilliant, highlights of YEAH! and together it really does get me looking forward to what may be coming in the future. As always Esme's vocals were brilliant, unlike her eyesight however (don't hate me Esme), and Emerson's also really shined through at points. I think the whole band did brilliantly even with some technical hiccups and it all came together really well. I told Emerson that I was going to write a blog and he said the pressure was on, and they delivered a complete 10/10 performance from them!

Conclusion

All in all this was one of my favourite concert experiences ever, and that's no overreaction. They kindness both artists and the crowd showed, it was amazing! Can't wait to see them at Omeara next year, I'll be counting down the days! So much personality and overflowing with emotion, Jo Geller, Esme Emerson and all the band pat yourselves on the back!
