Some Things Don't Last Forever - January Album Of The Month

MANNY! is a UK-based artist. Born 19/04/2000 he released his first single If You Wanna Break My Heart in 2022. In 2023 he started slowly releasing singles for his EP Some Things Don't Last Forever which we will be reviewing song by song today.

1 - Prologuing

This is a very sad but poetic way to start an album. Prologuing talks about Manny's struggle with self-harm. He describes the feeling of guilt and hoping his friends would forgive him. he also mentions themes of blaming others which, as he says, he puts on The 1975 one of my favourite bands for their song I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes. The instrumental and vocals are both very pleasing to the ears making this an extremely enjoyable listen, a sad one if you listen to the lyrics. Prologuing 7/10.

2 - Waiting

Moving swiftly on to one of my favourite songs on this EP. Waiting is an upbeat funky tune about Manny's experience in dating and relationships. The song comes back to a constant theme of Manny hoping that there is someone out there for him as he is currently struggling with love as a whole. He also looks at the underbelly of all this hope and positivity that he does struggle with feeling lonely and even wondering that maybe the lady for him isn't out there and how he just wants to be set free from this anxiety. Waiting 8.5/10.

3 - Regretting

Regretting is yet another sad song about love. This song is about one of Manny's failed relationships and, specifically, his reflection upon said relationship. He says how he stays awake at night replaying memories wondering what he could've done better or what he could've said better. This song, again shows Manny's really individualistic sound, one of the things that contributes to why I love him so much. Regretting 7.5/10.

4 - Boyloving

Do I sense a bisexual icon on our hands? Boyloving is a heartsick-ridden song all about forbidden love. Manny comments on how he fell in love with a boy and it changed him forever. He kept it bottled up and only let it run free in his mind, even hiding it from his closest friends. He daydreams about the chance that there's a world where they are together and do get to love each other, unconditionally without shame and judgement. Boyloving 7.5/10.

5 - Leaving

Okay another melancholy song about how Manny imagines thing were to play out if he did kill himself. Manny comments on the fact that he would make sure all his friends know that he loved them and wouldn't do anything until he's made true peace with everything. He even wonders whether anyone would even care. With a beautiful piano this is another great listen. Leaving 7/10.

6 - Epiloguing

Almost a continuation of Leaving, Epiloguing is Manny talking about how now he's made peace with everything he's on his way to his final destination. He shows feelings of regret, asking himself if it's the wrong solution. He justifies his final action by saying it's what he needs to do so he can see the light and that his body will be the final time his friends see him smile because he's, weirdly, happy with the outcome of what he's about to do and understands the consequences but thinks that it's what he wants to do and will bring him the most happiness. The outcome and action are permanent. I think the lyrics are so well thought out in this song that it has to be my fave on the whole EP. Epiloguing 9/10.

And so that was it, Some Things Don't Last Forever by MANNY!. I really hope Manny blows up some way or another because I truly think he has amazing talent, especially, in his writing.
